DraftScope

The fastest free online DXF viewer.

Drop any DXF file and inspect it instantly. Pan, zoom, toggle layers — all in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Built for engineers, surveyors and architects

No more emailing CAD files back and forth, no more installing trial software just to open a drawing.

🔒

100% private

Your DXF is parsed and rendered in your own browser. We never receive, store, or even see your file.

Instant open

No upload wait. Rendering starts the moment you drop the file, powered by WebGL for smooth pan and zoom.

📚

Layer control

Toggle layers on and off to inspect specific parts of a drawing. Perfect for reviewing complex surveying plots.

🌐

Works everywhere

Pure web app — no installation. Opens on any modern browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, on desktop or tablet.

🆓

Truly free

No signup, no trial, no upsell, no ads on the viewer. Built and maintained by SurveyingPedia as a gift to the community.

📐

Real CAD accuracy

Preserves coordinate precision, layer colors, dimensions. Not a quick thumbnail — it’s the real drawing.

How does it work?

1

Drop the file

Drag a DXF from your computer into the viewer, or click to browse. No upload, no signup.

2

Browser renders it

WebGL draws the CAD geometry in real time. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan.

3

Inspect & review

Toggle layers, read dimensions, check linework. Close the tab when you’re done — nothing is saved.

Frequently asked questions

Is DraftScope really free?

Yes. No signup, no trial, no credit card. It will stay free forever. We built it because SurveyingPedia is an open educational resource and a free DXF viewer fits that mission.

Does my file get uploaded?

No. DXF parsing and rendering happen entirely in your browser using WebGL. We never receive the file, we never store it, we cannot see it. It’s the most private way to view a DXF online.

What DXF versions are supported?

AutoCAD DXF R12 through R2018, including ASCII variants. If a file fails, try saving it as DXF R2010 from your CAD software — that’s the most compatible format.

Can I open DWG files?

Not yet. DWG is AutoCAD’s proprietary binary format — it requires a server-side conversion. For now, please export your drawing as DXF from your CAD application and upload that.

Are there file size limits?

Soft limit of ~50 MB, depending on your device RAM. Very complex drawings may load slowly the first time as WebGL compiles shaders. Desktop browsers handle large files best.

Who built this?
